My mom is Tahitian, and I love visiting my family in Tahiti. One of my uncles that lives there is a DJ. He offered for me to help him DJ a stake dance. I was excited to help him out, my first time DJing outside of the USA. I was anxious to see what different traditions there were, what songs would be the “bangers”, and how much local cultural music there’d be.
They loved dancing to local music, singing karaoke, and dancing to Let’s Dance videos. It was also a great chance to take notes on being an emcee in French.
